1st Little Cinema International Festival

 

Ghasiram Kotwal’s (Dir. K. Hariharan, Mani Kaul, Saeed Mirza, Kamal Swaroop et al., 1976, restored print) only surviving print was digitized and restored by Arsenal Institute for Film and Video Art in Berlin, Germany. The digitized and restored film was screened at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival’s Forum section. The first ‘Little Cinema International Festival’ opened with Ghasiram Kotwal, which was also the occasion for its Indian Premiere (courtesy Goethe Institut-Max Mueller Bhavan, Kolkata).

“This documentary, which is being made for the Films Division of India is part of the project that I had undertaken in 2006 called Tracing Phalke, which also included doing workshops in all cities in which in he lived like Nasik, Mumbai, Pune, Baroda and Kolhapur. Varanasi chapter of Phalke’s life has been captured in the 90-minute documentary, Rangbhoomi.”
